Kali has been built around the crew and designed with the Round Britain record attempt in mind; for example, 4 fuel filling points to ensure rapid fuelling and 'clean' tapered tubes with no rubbing strake, Kali is single minded lean and mean, if we don't require it for the attempt we don't carry it.
The crew sit in tandem in simple ultra lightweight quick release suspension
seating also designed by Simon providing progressive suspension in
3 directions. The cockpit is built with the same Intermediate modulus
carbon fibre that the hull is constructed from with a Polycarbonate
wind shield, whilst Ballistic Aramid protects the crew from any catastrophic
engine malfunction.
The aim is to move the design and operation of R.I.B's onwards by reducing the pitching moment, weight and build time while improving the efficiency, range and crew comfort for longer periods in the saddle at higher speeds. The boat is a technology demonstrator using cutting edge ideas and construction methods utilising both old and new technologies in ways that haven't been fused together before. Kali has an awesome power to weight ratio equal to a Moto GP racing motorcycle. It is a stunning and unique craft that has been built out of two men's passion for fast boats, modern technology and disdain for the lethargy exhibited by the majority of current R.I.B. designs. This project has so far been funded out of their own pockets and deserves respect.
Kali is currently being fitted out and after successful sea trials they intend circumnavigating mainland Britain in an attempt to break the under 30ft world record which currently stands at less than 31 hours. Kali has been constructed with the purpose of taking the Round Britain record, nearly all the under deck space being built as fuel tank, enabling them to carry a massive amount of fuel if required." Like formula 1 the conditions on the day will dictate if we carry a large fuel load and start slower or carry less fuel thereby travelling quicker but putting in for an extra fuel stop along the way".
Jon and Simon would be pleased to meet any potential sponsors
who would like to fund and be associated with their proposed record
attempts.
